Poetry Friday: Tap Dancing on the Roof

Newbery Award winning author Linda Sue Park has come up with something different here - a book of sijo poems. What are sijo poems? Good question! I hadn't heard of them before reading this book. They are a type of short poem that originated in Korea. Usually three or six lines long, sijo always have a surprise or twist at the end. Here's an example:

Bedtime Snacks

Good: Cookies and one glass of milk
for two dunkers -- me and my dad.

Better: Popcorn, a video,
and sleeping bags stuffed with friends.

Best: Blanket pulled up over my head --
book, flashlight, and one chocolate bar.

You can reserve this fun book here.
