Today for Poetry Friday I want to share a book called Yum! ¡MmMm! ¡Qué rico! This collection of haikus by Pat Mora celebrates foods that are native to the Americas. The book is beautifully illustrated by Rafael López.
On each page there is a haiku about a food, and there is also a paragraph describing the history of the food and its qualities.
My favorite haiku, of course, is the one about chocolate:
"Fudge, cake, pie, cookies.
Brown magic melts on your tongue.
Happy, your eyes dance. "
