Telling Stories
And I don't mean lies! Instead of pulling a book from the shelf and reading to your child, try learning a story or two...maybe even a paper-folding story or a string story. I told one yesterday to a 2nd grade class that was easy to learn and the kids were captivated. A few even wanted to know how to do it! There are lots of stories that are simply made to tell and the trick is not to memorize, just learn the gist of the story and embellish with your own ideas. Stories that have a repetitive theme are easier to learn. Check out a book called the Story Vine by Anne Pellowski. It is filled with wonderful tellable tales that will surprise and delight your kids!
