For today's Poetry Friday, I'd like to recommend Once I Ate a Pie, by Patricia MacLachlan and Emily MacLachlan Charest.
This book, beautifully illustrated with paintings by Katy Schneider, features poems told from the point of view of 13 dogs. The short poems are sweet, funny, and entertaining.
My favorite poem is told by a German Shepherd named Gus.
Gus says:
"I want my people in a group. Like sheep.
When someone is in the bathroom, I open the door.
'Are you all right?'
They are NOT happy.
I take them back to the others."
