Our Poetry Friday selection for this week is Me I Am!, by Jack Prelutsky. Prelutsky, the nation's first Children's Poet Laureate, has such a wonderful way of making poetry vibrant and exciting for children and adults alike. Me I Am! takes the format of a rhyming picture book rather than a standard collection of illustrated poems. It tells the story of children reveling in their unique personalities, hobbies, and taste in clothes.
Here is an excerpt:
"There is no other ME I AM
who thinks the thoughts I do;
the world contains one ME I AM,
there is no room for two."
