This powerful and moving free verse poem by Carole Boston Weatherford is the story a ten-year-old girl tells about her experiences in the civil rights movement in 1963. The book is beautifully designed, and illustrated with archival photographs. This is not a book for young children as it relates the heartbreaking story of the Birmingham church bombing by the KKK that killed four girls. However, for older children, it is a moving way to learn about some of our country's history. It is well worth reading, and a tribute to those who struggled and those who died for racial equality.
